(NIAT “Khovar”).- On May 17, the members of the group on issues of accession of Tajikistan to World Trade Organization (WTO) led by Clyde Kull arrived in Tajikistan on a four day visit.    It is expected that WTO representatives will meet Minister of Economic Development and Trade of Tajikistan. During the meting, it is planned to consider the issues related to accession of the Republic of Tajikistan to WTO, according to the Tajikistan Ministry of Economic Development and Trade.    It should be noted, that during last 2 years Tajikistan has hold intensive negotiations on accession in WTO.      According to the Ministry of Economic Development and Trade, presently negotiations have been conducted with 32 world countries. Including with 15 countries have been conducted bilateral negotiations. Protocol has been concluded only with two states - China and India. (NIAT “Khovar”).- On May 17, the Director of the Drug Control Agency under the President of the Republic of Tajikistan Rustam Nazarov met with Pakistani Ambassador to Tajikistan Amjad Husain Sial in Dushanbe.      During the meeting which was conducted at the initiative of Ambassador, the issues of concerns of the Pakistani Government regarding increase of the drug production in Afghanistan, organization of joint events on combating of drug trafficking from the Islamic Republic of Afghanistan.   Pakistani Ambassador in his turn proposed to consider the opportunity to conduct the Session on working out of joint events with countries bordering with Afghanistan in the second half of 2012.    The sides discussed the implementation of bilateral events on cooperation, as well as possible ways to develop drug situation in region after the withdrawal of coalition forces from the IRA. (NIAT “Khovar”).- The Minister of Energy and Industry of the Republic of Tajikistan Gul Sherali during his visit to Dubai held a number of meetings with Chairman of the company’s group “Al-Sharaf” Ahmad Abdullah Al-Sharif, the Chairman of the Company  (“Global Islamic Financial Advisors”) Amanie Advisors Mond Daud Bakar, representative of the International Agency on renewable energy (IRENA) Yong Chen.     In the course of these meetings the issues of attraction of investments in energetic and industrial sectors of Tajikistan were discussed. In particular, in establishment of joint enterprises on processing of fruits and vegetables, cotton, wool, skin, as in the republic as in the country established its own production of raw cotton, that is the main raw base for development of textile and clothing industries. (NIAT “Khovar”).-  Three day meeting of Intergovernmental Council of four member countries of CASA-1000 (Tajikistan, Kyrgyzstan, Pakistan and Afghanistan) has completed its work in Dubai (United Arab Emirates) on May 17. Tajik delegation was led by the Minister of Energy and Industry Gul Sherali, according to the press-service of the Ministry of Energy and Industry.       As well Pakistani Minister of Energy and Water Resources Said Navid Kamar, Afghan Minister of Energy and Water Resources Muhammad Ismail Khan and the Deputy Foreign Minister of Kyrgyzstan Nurlan Aitmurzaev attended the meeting. At the Tajikistan’s initiative number of International Financial Institutions and Arabian Funds, such as OPEC Fund on international Development (OFID), Saudi Development Fund,  Development Fund Abu-Dhabi and Kuwait Fund of Arabian Economic Development have attended the meeting in order to assist the project CASA-1000.         During the meeting the sides discussed the issues of the structure and project’s financing. There was noted, that at this moment project CASA-1000 previously is supported by the World Bank, Islamic Development Bank and US Agency on International Development (USAID), - noted interlocutor. – In spite of the support, provided by these agencies, it remains the opportunities for participation of other financial institutes and investors in this vital important project.   It should be mentioned, that Tajikistan, Afghanistan, Pakistan and Kyrgyzstan have jointed their efforts in order to link their national electricity lines through the project called CASA -1000. It is expected, that after implementation of this project excess of electricity produced in Tajikistan and Kyrgyzstan, will be exported to Pakistan and Afghanistan, which have shortage of electric power. The project will use the latest technologies and modern equipment to ensure reliable power supply at these markets in future. (NIAT “Khovar”).- On May 18, 2012 at the U.S. State Department the second day of the Annual Bilateral Consultations took place between Tajikistan and the United States. As it was previously reported, on the consultations the delegation of Tajikistan is led by Foreign Minister Hamrokhon Zarifi.  In the course of continued consultations the sides discussed issues such as cooperation in the field of education and cultural exchanges, human rights, the process of accession of Tajikistan to the World Trade Organisation, water resources and environment.  The heads of delegations and experts exchanged views on the above-mentioned issues and expressed their vision on future cooperation between the countries.  The discussion on the WTO accession of Tajikistan was preceded by a meeting of experts from both sides, during which the technical and practical components of the negotiations in this trend were discussed in details. As a result, certain agreements were reached and both sides expressed readiness to continue the discussions at the next Working Group meeting scheduled for July this year in Geneva.  Thereon, the Third round of Annual Bilateral Consultations between Tajikistan and the United States of America was completed. (NIAT “Khovar”).- On May 17, 2012, the Minister of Foreign Affairs of the Republic of Tajikistan Hamrokhon Zarifi, who heads the Tajik delegation during the trip to the U.S., took part in the Annual Bilateral Consultations with the United States of America. During the first day of the consultations the delegations of Tajikistan and the United States discussed the issues on the agenda relating to security issues and border strengthening, as well as economic cooperation and investment. On May 18 the bilateral consultations will be continued.  On the second half of May 17, the Minister of Foreign Affairs of Tajikistan met with a member of the U.S. Congress, the Chairman of the House of Representatives subcommission on Europe and Eurasia Mr. Dan Burton. The sides reviewed the state of bilateral cooperation and the role of parliament in the further development of relations between the U.S. and Tajikistan.  On the same day the Minister of Foreign Affairs of Tajikistan met with a representative of U.S. National Security Council, Mrs. Alice Wells. The two sides discussed the situation in the region and Afghanistan, the fight against drugs and terrorism, as well as a number of international issues.  On the evening of May 17, at the Central Asia and Caucasus Institute of Johns Hopkins University a presentation was held by the Minister of Foreign Affairs of Tajikistan Hamrokhon Zarifi on the topic of &quot;Tajikistan and Central Asia in light of the 2014&quot;. During the presentation, the Minister of Foreign Affairs shared his vision on the situation in the region in light of the withdrawal of coalition troops from Afghanistan in 2014 and a number of infrastructure projects for economic and social rehabilitation of this country. (NIAT “Khovar”).- On May 16, the President of the country Emomali Rahmon visited districts of Rasht and Tavildara for acquaintance with sites damaged by an earthquake occurred on 13 May.   As it was informed, 8 houses have been damaged fully and 16 houses partially in two villages of Rasht district.     All victims have been given food products, including flour, oil, sugar, rice, and tents.  The Head of state Emomali Rahmon instructed the republican and local officials to restore the damaged houses of Rasht district with household utensils available till September current year.        In Tavildara district President Emomali Rahmon instructed the functionaries to determine in the next 5 days the volume of damage and number of families left homeless, and to work out a list of families wishing to move to Qumsangir district.   It was instructed that new settlements should be provided with all necessary infrastructures, including schools, medical centre, power and water lines and others.
