Invest-Forum Tajikistan Belgium in Brussels

On November 6th, 2012 in Brussels an Investment Forum between Tajikistan and Belgium has been held at the initiative of the Embassy of the Republic of Tajikistan to the Kingdom of Belgium and the support of leadership of companies Saturn Group and Cliniques de l'Europe with the participation of major investors of the host country. The forum was also attended by an official delegation of Tajikistan, which arrived in the Belgian capital for the second meeting of the Cooperation Committee between the European Union and the Republic of Tajikistan.
The forum was also attended by representatives of the European Union, Federal Public Service Foreign Affairs, Foreign Trade and Development Cooperation of Belgium, the Energy Charter, a number of European media.
The purpose of this event was the presentation of economic and investment potential of the Republic of Tajikistan for the Belgian business circles aimed at attracting inward investment in priority sectors of the economy and at the implementation of promising national projects. This forum also served as a platform for establishing and strengthening contacts with potential investors from the European Union.
At the beginning the participants of the forum were welcomed by the head of group of companies Saturn Group and Cliniques de l'Europe Dirk Lambrechts and the Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of the Republic of Tajikistan to the Kingdom of Belgium Rustamjon Soliev.
Tajik Ambassador informed those present about the huge untapped investment potential of the republic in various economic sectors, especially in the areas of hydropower and industry, transport and communications, agriculture, as well as tourism, education, health care and IT-technologies. Ambassador R. Soliev highlighted the achievements of the country during its independence, including the establishment of peace and national reconciliation, the construction of an independent, democratic and secular state with a market economy, deep political and economic reforms under the leadership of President Emomali Rahmon. The Ambassador noted the historic and crucial role of the 16th Session of the Supreme Council of the Republic of Tajikistan in the formation of the Tajik state. He added that the country will mark its twentieth anniversary November this year. He stressed that the Government of Tajikistan has created favorable economic and legal conditions for the successful functioning of the foreign capital in various sectors of economy of the Republic and called for the active enhancement of trade, economic and investment relations with Tajikistan.
Further, Head of delegation of Tajikistan, Deputy Minister of Economic Development and Trade of the country Saidrahmon Nazriev made a presentation of the economic and investment potential of Tajikistan. The representative of Tajikistan informed the participants of the forum on the economic sectors of the country, its favorable investment climate, national legislation in this area, as well as the priority and promising investment projects, in particular in the fields of energy, industry, tourism and service sector. S. Nazriev stressed that very favorable conditions have been created both for local and foreign investors for their investment activities in the Republic of Tajikistan. After his speech S.Nazriev answered to numerous questions of foreign investors.
Then, the President of the respected European information and consulting company Big Media Group Thieu Cuypers shared his impressions after a visit to Tajikistan, sunny and picturesque country with a wise hospitable people, rich cultural heritage, customs and traditions, with untapped tourism potential. He also informed in detail about the hydropower potential of the country. Thieu Cuypers urged foreign investors to invest their capital in the Republic of Tajikistan, and stressed that this rapidly developing country in the future will become prosperous and rich land in the region.
In addition, the Deputy Head of the Delegation of the European Union to the Republic of Tajikistan, Head of Division for Policy, Press and Information Istvan Nyitrai and a representative of the Energy Charter Zafar Samadov spoke on the subject of the mentioned event. They drew the attention of participants of the forum to economic, cultural and tourism potential of Tajikistan, its stable political situation, favorable investment conditions in the national economy.
Following the event, guests were presented with materials about the economic potential of the Republic of Tajikistan, in particular in the areas of energy and industry, a special issue of The European Times magazine about Tajikistan, recently published in Brussels, as well as information booklets about Somon Air, materials on water and energy potential of the country, books about TALCO.
An English 20-minute information film about Tajikistan was demonstrated to guests at an informal reception, which described Tajik nature, culture, priority sectors of the economy, tourism potential, etc.
