WB Vice-President has completed his visit to Tajikistan
Dushanbe, May 24. (NIAT “Khovar”).-
The Vice-President of the World Bank (WB) on Europe and Central Asia Philip Le Ueru has completed his visit to Tajikistan.
In the visit’s framework Philip Le Ueru has met with Tajikistan President Emomali Rahmon and high-ranking officials of the Government. During these meetings were discussed issues of projects on development implemented by Tajikistan with WB financing.
During cooperation years, WB participation in Tajikistan energy sector completed in effort’s support of the Government in order to render reliable supply of electricity to consumers, solution of large energy shortage in winter period, reduction of system’s losses in electricity supply and strengthening of system of financial management in energy sector. Moreover, the variants of energy supplying with aim of assessment of alternative energy sources for Tajikistan are researched by bank.
WB answering to the Tajikistan Government’s request as well provided funds for two evaluative studies in order to assess in accordance with international feasibility standards proposed project Rogun hydropower station, mainly technical-economic evaluation and assessment of ecological and social influence.
In accordance with agreement with Government of two international experts’ groups are to participate in evaluating studies and will present their independent opinions and recommendations. In addition during the whole process the countries of the basin will be actively informed and attracted in consultation’s process.
Current financing for conducting of evaluative studies on proposed Roghun project is representing in the framework of the financing of the WB project of electricity supply’s reduction (PESR) in Tajikistan, to be finished on June 30, 2012.
The continuation of financing of evaluative studies on Roghun project is foreseen from the additional financing for PESR, recently have been endorsed by Council Directors of WB. For coming into affect of agreement on additional financing it is necessary that Tajikistan Government in satisfactory for WB form has saluted all permitted open-ended questions on the process and methodology of studies’ conducting.
